Teaching

Jon is a licensed teacher for English Language Arts, having earned a B.A. in English from California State University, Fresno, and an M.A. in Education / with emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction from New Mexico State University.

He has taught English Language Arts, Creative Writing, Reading, and Media Language Arts at the middle and high school levels, and has served as a college instructor for College Success and Curriculum and Instruction.
Courses Taught
(College) ALS 101/College Success: Principles of college and career readiness, with strong focus on professional preparation and credibility (including interviewing and resumes) to successfully navigate ever-changing academic and work landscapes.

(High School) English 11: Refinement of research paradigms, writing, and vocabulary (including thesis construction), practice of persuasion and presentation techniques, and critical thinking through literature study and examination of diverse topics.

(High School) Creative Writing: Instruction of various types of writing including short-story construction, radio commercial scriptwriting, poetry, elements of fiction, and how to present the written word through engaging performance.

(High School) English 10: Continuation of research, writing, and academic vocabulary skills, learning greater presentation techniques, and critical thinking through study of characters and diverse topics within varied literature.

(High School) Reading Intervention: Skills taught to better enhance one's reading ability by fluently understanding (and reciting critical elements with ease) in multiple settings including academic and work environments.

(Middle School) Media Language Arts: Class focused on the enhancement of English and Language Arts through the production of technology-centered projects, with use of computers, software, and professional studio equipment to present information.
